Thrissur Lottery Scam: Youth Robbed of ₹15,000 with Color Photocopy of Winning Ticket; CCTV Released

Thrissur: A person was defrauded of ₹15,000 in a lottery scam after being given a color photocopy of a prize-winning ticket. The money was stolen from a lottery agent by presenting a color photostat of a ticket that supposedly won the fourth prize of ₹5,000. A formal complaint has been filed with the police regarding the incident.

The fraud took place in Kattoor Ponjanam, Thrissur. Lottery agent Nelliparambil Thejas was the victim. A young man, who arrived at Thejas' lottery shop near Kattoor High School on a bike, handed over color copies of the winning tickets

.

The youth presented three tickets for the Kerala government's Samriddhi lottery, which was drawn on the 21st. A check using the QR code initially indicated that the ticket had won the fourth prize of ₹5,000. Believing this, Thejas handed over the prize money, minus the commission, to the youth. However, when Thejas later went to the agency to exchange the ticket, he discovered he had been cheated. The original lottery ticket had already been exchanged at the Alappuzha Treasury on the 23rd. The police have obtained CCTV footage of the youth arriving on his bike.
